Hi
Lynn
I don’t know if you
want to put a mention on the DRC website, or put a round robin email out to
members… but
I’m sure a lot of
people know.. VOSA are tightening up on regulations for 7.5ton lorries as well
as towed trailers by cars/4x4’s. Also as from 1st April there are new
regulations on drivers hours which are not just for the commercial hgv driver,
but for any driver of a vehicle over 7.5ton.
It seems some people
are ignoring the warnings in various publications working on the theory that
ignorance will be ok when stopped by VOSA
I heard the other day
when Towerlands had a showjumping competition on, lorries and trailers were
pulled over for checking.
I know of one person
who was fined £6000 for 1) being overweight on a
7.5ton lorry
2) as a result of being overweight contravening tacho laws and driver hour
regulations
3) not having horse passports with them
His lorry was held and
the owner had to find an alternative method of getting his horses home.
VOSA have made it known
they are interested in agricultural and horsey vehicles. So it’s in everybody’s
interest to be correct.
I have a flow chart I
asked Baker Hammond ltd to create, to make these laws easy for the everyday
person to understand. I can email copies if required. (but email me on my home
email address madamspook@aol.com not
this one!)
I have explained to Roy
at Baker Hammond ltd ( they do all my drivers tacho analysis) the problem with
the everyday person’s (non commercial driver) issues with these tightening of
laws and new EU directives.. he is very sympathetic to our cause and will help
in anyway.
I’ve attached the flow
chart so you can see it too.
Cheers
Ann
